Typically there is room, but it truly depends on the length of the bars on your car. Also depending on which type of control tower you are using, sometime you can mount the box so part of it is just outside of the control tower on the side of the vehicle. Just be careful with stability and overhang. There are also some other boxes that are narrower that are better suited to being alongside a bike rack. Since vehicles vary in width, you'll just have to measure and see what you come up with.
