It is definitely insulated and thus self inflating. The manufacturer gives it an R value of 6.6-10, very high. http://pacoutdoor.com/sleeping-pads/view/bomber-pad The higher price is due to the burly construction aimed at rough usage, particularly as a pad for rafting that can be used for both sleep and a cushion on the boat.

Not insulated, still worth it though. Consider the fact it is welded, made out 420 Denier Nylon, has four season usage, grommeted attachment points and is the only pad built this way on the market.
