My wife is a school teacher and needs a lot of heel cushion, is this style going to have that? If not, which shoe would you recomend for colder weather and that type of all-day usage?

I have problems with heel spurs, which kind of sounds like what your wife is going through. To help alleviate this, I would add a circular, O shaped heel pad. This allows the heel spur a rest, since the O shaped pad provides it rest and support. This can be easily added to the underside or topside (if you wish) of the insole. You may also add an orthopaedic insole/orthotic as well.These are very comfortable, long wear shoes in the winter...I wear them everyday in the New England winter with the exception of hiking/snow shoveling. I highly recommend Merell for any woman due to the awesome support/weight distribution in the shoe to compensate for our wider hips. Also recommend Merrell Encore MJ, the Spring/Summer/Fall equivalent of the Chill.
