Do you connect the Footape to your ascender using a carabiner through the metal ring, or through the web loop? The ring on my Footape has a weld that's not too confidence-inspiring. Also, what's the hole in the adjustment buckle for?

Can you post a picture of the weld on the ring? I'm an engineer and I'll let you know what I think about it. That said, keep in mind, it isn't specified that this is a man-rated piece of gear. So, I don't know that I would use it for an aid step, but I'm sure it does it's intended job well. If you are really sketched out by the ring, then just get a bolt cutter and replace it with a nice safe crab. And I would assume the hole in the buckle is likely weight savings.
