I tried this on today and it was more comfortable than other petzl helmets but felt kinda flimsy - the plastic, especially in the back, was quite flexible. Does anyone have experience with this helmet taking an impact or know how it's supposed to compare to other helmets as far as protecting my head, not just looking cute?

Watch the video that I posted, it describes exactly how this helmet was designed to take an impact. The Elios also has a surprisingly soft plastic shell--that is because Petzl has designed these helmets to absorb the shock over the entire head by rippling the force through the soft plastic, rather than deflecting it outright like a more traditional hard hat would. Doing so allows their helmets to be lighter and more comfortable without considerable compromise on safety (there is some compromise). This plastic is also designed to work equally well in very hot conditions and subzero freezing conditions.

I've used the male version of this and agree it doesn't feel quite as durable as one might expect. The Petzl's Ecrin Roc helmet weighs quite a bit more and feels more sturdy to me (it is the type of plastic used). However, both meet the same safety certifications... although might not look as cute/leave room for your pony-tail.
