I have checked my Granite Gear several times and it has come back undamaged everytime. Pull all of your straps tight and tuck in the loooe ends. Buckle the hip belt around the back of the pack and pull tight, and tuck in loose ends. Don't leave any items on the outside of the pack...!!

Airport baggage handlers don't give a hoot about anyone's luggage, packs, or other personal belongings. I would select a beefier pack if I were you. The Nimbus Ozone doesn't have a top compartment which I think makes it more vulnerable especially under airport conditions.
