I have been wearing Costa's for the past twenty years. I work out side in my mobile home park every day which has a lot of reflective surfaces, and I fish offshore, inshore, and freshwater often. These glasses have always offered the best visuals and protection from UV light and glare. When they need service or repair, you box them, ship them, and they fix them. I just broke a pair that was discontinued, and they replaced them with a new $200.00 pair of Costa Del Mar Howlers for $50.00 and $12.00 shipping. How can you beat that? I've owned and worn several high end brands through the years, and none has made my eyes see or feel better than Costas. As for the 580 lens, if you can afford them, get'em. You'll be a customer for life.

Look at Kaenon and Maui Jim. They offer a better quality lense in a safer plastic type lense. See Maui Jim Evolution and Kaenon SR-91 lenses. You will find them both much safer. Kaenon's exceed the Ansi test for high speed impact. They also do so without removing color. They simply filter the glare with anti-glare coatings, not by removing part of the light spectrum. I'd be hard pressed to believe that by cutting out light, you're seeing the 'true colors'.

Yes, the Costa 580 lenses are the best lenses in the sunglass business. They are patented by Costa. What the Costa 580 lenses do is totally block out the yellow light that the human eye can see. Yellow light causes glare and distortion. When you don't see yellow light all of the other colors are truer and more vivid. So your reds are redder, blues are bluer and greens are greener. It doesn't change the color of what you are looking at you are actually seeing the true colors out there. So from that perspective, yes the Costa 580 lenses are worth the price.
