YES! and when you turn it on, ever time you use it, check your battery strength (the % left will display before it goes into transmitting mode) If you are under 60-50% please, for my sake if I am the one you are trying ti find, REPLACE the batteries with a fresh set of 3 of the same batteries!

Yes... to avoid corrosion which can normally occur when alkaline batteries are stored for long periods of non-use in devices

Definitely re-up your batteries every year, whether you leave them in over the summer or not. Pulling them out now means backup batteries for the remote during the hockey playoffs - that is good.
