How do these compare to the XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX in terms of using them for ultralight backpacking (carrying 20-25 lbs tops over 50-60 miles). I've used other Salomon trail runners for such backpacks but would like an opinion of which of these two Salomon shoes are best for high sierra fastpacks. thx, Martin

I've used both of these shoes, and they're equally awesome, but the major difference is the 3Ds have the 3D chassis (hence the name). This gives more support and locks the heel in like a suction cup. Also the 3Ds have a nice rubber toe cap. I'd say the comps give a more precise feel and flexible sensitivity of the terrain but with slightly less support. You'd have to decide if you want the shoe to do the work for you or be able to feel everything, but both shoes are awesome for fastpacking.
