Is it good for really HOT weather, like Sahara in the summer, or Thailand in August ? if not, what does the job ?

Third the ExOfficio vote. I have pairs of both and while I would take these just about anywhere, somewhere hot and very humid would benefit from something that drys quicker. That being said, I wear these daily, the ExOfficios are reserved for travel only, these are just so comfortable.

Definitely not good for really HOT weather. On the other hand these do kill it for any other cool to cold temps. Perfect for Fall and winter.

Theoretically, wool would do just fine. Its supposed to keep you both WARM and COOL and not stink after several days. That being said, I think it takes a bit longer to dry than other options. If you're going some place like the Sahara or Thailand in August, I would check out the ExOfficio Boxer Briefs. I think you can almost get two for the price of one of these and they'll dry in 2-3 hours after washing. I spent 3 months in 2 pairs in Uganda and never had a problem!
