The knees and the butt are reinforced with a burlier fabric... the rest of the pants are made with a super light 15D nylon. They are not insulated with down... but, with a proprietary synthetic insulation from Mountain Hardwear called Thermic Micro. It is very light and very down-like in feel. Hope this helps!
