I am looking for a basic GPS to use Geocaching in our local area with my kids. Would this model work well for that?

Wendy, It would work, yes. I started geocaching with this type of GPS and it worked fine until I left it at a cache. If you're looking for the ability to input coordinates and "go to" them to find the cache, as well as to mark locations (like a car or trailhead), this will work. If you're looking for an ability to have maps on it, this one won't do the trick. You also need the cables if you wish to connect it to a computer (for putting waypoints onto it, for example). Of course, you can always just input the coordinates by hand... So after a long-winded explanation: yep, it'll work. Not the fanciest and doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it'll get you to those caches!
