I recently skied two demo runs at Alta on K2 Hellbents (179cm) and loved the way they turned in crud and soft bumps. I did not have a chance to try them in deep powder. My plan is to buy a pair to use as my powder/soft snow ski. I currently ski Volkl Mantras at 184 as my everyday ski.

My question is what length should I choose? I am 6' 205 lb.(naked) and 62 years old (I know, you don't want to look!). I keep fit year-round by running and lifting. I am a level 9 skier with over 40 years experince enjoying the pleasures of time on the snow. Usually, I ski at Alta -- all terrain including chutes, tight trees and open bowls. I am more of a banger than a finesse skier, but also enjoy the pleasure of a smooth, carved turn. Certainly, no one ski will do it all, but I feel that the Hellbent, in the correct length, could come close. I would appreciate recommendations about length. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

MC

NO question the 189. I am 6'4 and 190lbs. I bought the 179, and found them too short....I almost went over the handlebars a few times with them. I bought the 189s this year, and is so easy to turn, and amazing in anything above six inches of fresh.

189 would be good if you like to go fast. You could go with a 179, but it might feel short in the deep snow. The 189 will turn like a shorter ski, but give you the float you need in fresh snow. Check out the 2011 ObSethed, too. It's getting fatter and has a stiffer tail.
