Yeah you can just put avy gear inside.

Nope - sorry. Its more of an alpine, ice climbing specific pack. Might be able to strap the shovel in the front kangaroo pocket if it was small enough and had an attached handle - like the BD Deploy 3. Probe in the wand pocket? Not idea, but a possible solution if just for occasional use.
