Yes the clip pops out. No hex screw

I believe the clip is attached my an hex screw so I would say it is removable.

Did not notice if it can be removed or not but you can put the goggles under the helmet either way. But you will never be able to take them off with out removing the whole helmet. Goggles sit nicely on the front of the helmet when you want some air flow to the face. Somthing you couldnt do if you had the strap on the inside...
