they would work well with ice. the wool lining gives a great grip and friction from hand, to shell, to ice tool or ski pole. there is no primaloft on the palm side, only on the back of the hand, and this allows better dexterity, and better grip. the gauntlet will also work well, to be worn outside of the jacket layer.
