Hi people, I'm interested in the Axl, after three years of the 7TM.....I'm sad to see the Axl does not seem to have room for, say, a voile ski crampon...Am I wrong? Also, I sure hope that in climb position the ski tail will naturally drop for me when stepping tall through steep and deep snow. Had to weight my skin tails and bungie from the binding to boot on the 7TM to get them to behave in deep trail breaking mode. hope the 22 guys are thinking of a ski crampon that can be added on, it's needed much of the year here in the North Cascades.
thanks for your comments. cheers, bob

The tail does drop when in tour mode. The Axl will be FAR stiffer than 7tm. Might take you some getting used to. I love the control. I don't know anything about the crampons sorry.

The Axl is a free pivot binding. So, yes, when the binding is in tour mode, the ski tail will drop when you lift the ski. I don't know if a Voile universal crampon will work with the Axl- I have never needed a crampon, since I hate skinning up AND skiing down ice and extremely firm, chalky snow. I would suggest emailing the 22 Designs guys and asking them about a crampon. I don't really know what else to say about it all, except the Axl will be better than your 7tm by leaps and bounds. Hope you can score a pair.
