I'm about 5'11'' and 165 lbs. aggressive/advanced skier. I ski in Idaho and ride in the trees about 50% of the time and in the backcountry 50% of the time. I've been struggling over going with the 179 or the 189 for some time now. It's exhausting...please help me.

Hi Mac: I just demo'd the 179's yesterday at Alpine Meadows--5 feet of new wet and windpacked snow. Lousy experience, because I had to lean back most of the day and force the turns. Went "over the bars" twice. During the few runs on the groomers, they turned to easily and too tight for my liking. I'm 5'11", and here's my opinion: You probably have a good pair of skis to use when you're not in the deeper powder and crud. You'll be using these when there's a lot of new snow. Get the longest pair you can get so you get the most float. Greg

Hey Bro, I'm 5'9", 170lbs and ride the 179s. Stick with 'em. Keep in mind that your 179 is actually about a 185 in most other skis. the 189s get a little bit overwhelming.

I have not been on them, but, I have been on skis of similar length and design, and I would recommend the 179. 169 would be a tad short, in my opinion, and the 189 is a tad long, but, with the rocker the 179 should be manageable. Also, it is better to have too much ski than too little. Just my .02 though, take it as you wish. K2 also measures their skis different than most companies, so the 189 runs more like a 193 from what I have read.
