I've done it several times for different cars. The best method is a Dermel tool with a cutting wheel. Use a face sheild, safety glasses, or googles!. Mark your bar, wrap masking tape around the bar at the mark to have a guide to follow, cut the bar. Use a utility knife to cut back to rubber so the end will accept an end cap. Viola!
