Go for them under your snowpants they dont look bulky and stil work great.

JohnK said it. They aren't as comfortable when worn on the outside, but you can hardly beat the steez! They're really comfortable and low profile when worn over your base layer, and under the shell pants. I wear mine every day I ski. I hardly notice they're on, but I do when they're not. It's getting redundant, but I feel naked without my knee pro'.

Most people choose over the insulation, under the outerwear. That said, you can do over the pants if you're going for a throwback tele-hippie kind of look

Under the ski pants, over the long underwear, otherwise the straps chafe.
