Does anyone know the obvious disadvantages of this helmet? like the whole neck breaking thing or is that just a rumor? i have about 5 scares on my face from skiing and so i thought it might be a good idea to go with this helmet. i compete in the junior extreme freeskiing championships.

The fogging problem can be solved. My sons, first used Smith Knowledge Fan Goggles with this helmet. Fogging problems went away until last year. We then ski in Japan and the fogging returned. They now use Swan Fan Goggles with their Smith Troy Lee Helmets (XXL) even with their glasses on. They have no more fogging problem at all! (This was tested after two trips in both Dec. 2010, and Feb. 2011 skiing in Japan, under extreme high wind and about -15C mingled with heavy snowing). Location - Rusutsu and Neisko. p.s. They both are double diamonds at now 10 & 12. p.p.s. You can see my son's photo above. The one with glasses and with the helmet I posted before (under Ant2787945 above).

This is a good helmet! Yes it fogs when you stop, but any full face does that, so if you need the protection don't factor that in. The only down-side so far is that when you do your face-plant you will break the visor. Smith, nor Backcountry (nor anybody) stock the visor as a separate item that can be purchased. I was able to get mine replaced by sending only the visor to Smith Warranty repair and they had me back a new one in two days. It would be really nice is Smith had this item as an accessory that can be purchased. My replacement visor came in a Troy Lee package with a part number. I might call them and see if I can buy one to have on-hand as a spare.
