Thanks,Ty, I appreciate your advice. I actually tried on a small today in a Patagonia store. It was tighter but fine overall, just like the medium is looser but still fine overall---I guess I'm right on the cusp. If you feel the medium is going to insulate as effectively as the small, I'll stick with medium.

Daniel, From your height, weight, and waist measurement I would initially have recommended the medium. The Capilene 3 Bottoms aren't designed to be completely form fitting, and will still function well if they're a little loose. Nothing wrong with sizing down for a tighter fit, but if that medium's comfortable I'd say stick with it.
