Does anyone know if the Hawthorn is supposed to be as "Puffy" as the McMurdo Jacket? I purchased the Hawthorn because it doesn't look like a dress, but my dad has the McMurdo and the insulation is much thicker. Both have a 550-fill rating.

Thanks Dave, that makes sense. North Face provides a specific volume of down that will cover 550 cu.in. per ounce of down used. What they don't tell is the ounces of fill provided for the jacket. Wish they would do that for future reference, it would help when ordering online. Thanks again

The McMurdo is definitely the heavier insulated jacket of the two. The 550 down rating tells you that the two jackets use the same type of down insulation, but it doesn't tell you how much of it is used to insulate the jacket. Hope this helps
