Does this shrink laterally at all? I know smartwool designed it so the sleeves are slightly longer to compensate for shrinking, but does it shrink sideways as well? Thanks.

I washed this in hot water hoping for some shrinkage as I am in between sizes and opted to go larger but there was 0% shrink in any dimension including the sleeves.

i find the smartwool baselayers all to fit to form, meaning they're fairly tight but not overly so.I would liken the fit to UnderArmour Fitted baselayers-not as tight as compession fit but in between.I'm a big guy,not fat, well built-6ft5-260lbs,and the xxl fits me well.

Yea they mention it on their tags. I already have this piece in M, I'm your typical 5'9 155 lb guy with slightly wider chest. It fits great, I just worry about washing it the first time, since the clothes that usually run small on me are due to the chest/shoulder region.

Hmm I didn't know they designed the sleeves with a little extra for shrinking--I always thought the length was so when you swing your arms around the sleeves don't ride up. When I have shrunk my smartwool merino just a little (mostly by accident, I now only air dry them) it's been an all over shrinkage as opposed to just length or just width. Do you already have a piece but think it's a bit too baggy? What sizing (you and the shirt)?
