I just got the Black Hawthorn and mine does not detach from the jacket. You can detach the fur liner, but the hood itself will not come off. Not sure if the different colors have a difference, or if there are different models.

the fur is attached with a nice zipper. beware, the hood is HUGE. i actually fold it back a bit, and it is ultra warm
