I am looking for recommendations regarding a sleep system. I have a tarp tent which blocks most all weather and looking for something breathable that will shed a small amount of external water from me should it get in. I live in the humid southeast of NC and have been warned about condensation both inside the tarp tent and also inside bivy bags. Between the Montbell UL sleeping bag cover and the Outdoor Research micro night bivy. Looking at three parts. Water protection from outside. No condensation from inside and use without the tent for occasional light hiking this should add some small amount of heat retention and water protection to a 30 degree snugpak Merlin 3 synthetic bag.
I will be using a ground sheet and synmat 7 delux extra wide pad 26

A gore-tex bivi is a great thing to have if you get caught in the backcountry overnight. This model is based on the British standard issue military gore-tex bivi bag. This one is about three times more expensive but it tapers at the bottom and is probably a little lighter. Gore-tex is great but not flawless, it will inevitably 'sweat' inside without some ventilation, however if you have a good tarp and sleeping bag it's wiser to get a ground cloth or sleeping pad. Either of those would make more sense for weather protection, but if you already own those items then this bivi would be great for a lightweight emergency alternative to carrying all that gear.
