I wash and dry mine with the rest of my laundry with no ill effects...

Inside out, gentle cycle, wool or other biodegradable detergent (gentler on things). Never machine dry. The high heat is what kills most fabric

i wash all my wool socks inside out, gentle cycle, warm or cool. depending on what kind of sock (cushion or no cushion), i pop the cushioned socks in the dryer on very low heat for a few minutes to help fluff up the knit again, then line dry them. no or low cushion i just put right on the line, no dryer.

I would...on cold if you can too. If you're not in a rush, not drying them will probably preserve their life too.
