I keep my 3L Camelback in the vented area and it works alright. When the bladder is completely full, you can feel it a little protruding in your back, but after you drink maybe half a litters worth you can't even tell its there anymore.

I put a 2L MSR behind the mesh ventilated pocket on the back (there is a zipper on the top). Fits fine when full.

My 2L Camelbak is a tight squeeze (when full) to fit into the inner pocket, but it hangs in the vented area just fine. Which is preferable to me, because the main compartment is generally crammed full of gear.

Your standard 1.5-2 L hydration pouch will fit this pack. Either Camelback or Platypus should work. Anything bigger than 2 L will start to be a squeeze.
