How does this compare to the Stoic merino crew shirt. Which is heavier and warmer and what does "micron" count stand for. There's only a .5 difference between the two (the BC being more than the Stoic). Basically which is the better product for running in the cold.

The 18 micron is the diameter of the merino wool fiber. Basically, the lower the number, the finer the fiber is, and the less likely it will itch. That said, 18 is pretty thin. Much much thinner than human hair. So 0.5 micron is not a big difference. In terms of which is better to run in the cold, it depends on how cold /humid it gets. But as the weight of the two shirts are pretty similar, they should perform in similar fashion.
