in what situation would i want to use tha A- frame carry, and when would i want the diagonal carry? i. e. what are the pros and cons of both systems?

I use the A-frame carry for longer distances or when it's steep because it's much more stable, and the diagonal carry when it's a quick jaunt because it's easier to set up.

Yeah its just what you like, but for the sake of argument i will weigh in for diagonal. I like it because, with a-frame, although maybe more balanced, the tails more easily hit your lower legs. plus, i like having the skis together, i just feel like it's more secure. just make sure you don't have to fit through a narrow pass

I find that it mostly dials down to personal preference, since it almost always doesn't matter. I prefer a-frame carry usually, since it puts the tails on either side of my legs and is a bit more balanced on the pack.
