Hey Stomper- it will work, but it probably wouldn't be my first choice as a layering fleece because it has a windblocking membrane that will slightly limit breathibability. Here are a few other options that don't have membranes that will work well for layering: -The North Face Momentum Jacket (powerstretch type matial - my favorite in the group) -The North Face Bonded Rebel Full Zip Jacket (bonded fleece) -The North Face Borealis Full Zip (lighter 100 weight microfleece) I think all 3 of these would make nice layering pieces for your shell- Hope this helps
