Is there any stiffness/support structure between the waist belt and shoulder harness or is it just soft material like a standard backpack? I can't find any good descriptions of this product.

The part that goes against your back is stiff if that's what you're asking.

the pack has about a 6 to 8 in waist support that hugs your sides before the actual strap begins, so the actual waist strap where it buckles only really covers your stomach while the waist support i was talking about covers your sides... hope this helps if you haven't already purchased the pack...

I have a smaller version of this pack (Chaos) and even though there isn't any internal structure the polymer padding that they use has enough stiffness so that heavy loads sit very well on your back.
