Hello, I am looking for a sleeping bag for one of my friends in Russia. He is going to use this back in conditions of high altitude, sleeping on ice with temperature reaching - 40. I was wondering if The North Face Inferno Endurance Sleeping Bag: -40 is really allowing somebody to stay at -40 and also is it comfortable and warm to sleep in this bag just wearing underwear at -4 F? Or do you have other recommendations? Thank you, Anastasiya

If you sleep in your underwear, on an insulated mat and in a tent, you should be very comfortable in this bag down to -24C. The comfort level wanes after that. Survival rating in the same conditions (underwear, mat, tent) is -46C. You will survive, but you'd wish you were dead. But if it's warmer than -15C then it will be too warm. For comfortable sleep in -4F you might want to take a look at The North Face Solar Flare or Marmot Col EQ.
