What is warmer, the North Face Tahoe Down Hooded jacket or the Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket? I live in a cold climate. This is not for use in mountaineering, but I do spend a lot of time outdoors and in the backcountry. Thanks!

Linda. It is very hard to say which jacket will be 'warmer' as every person has a different metabolism. I would imagine that the down fill in each jacket is similar in amount therefore making the warmth gained from the insulation similar. The TNF jacket weighs 545g and the Sub Zero SL weighs 745g so it could be said that the Sub Zero has more down insulation but I don't know that for sure. The difference in weight more than likely comes from the fact that the Sub Zero SL is made utilizing the Conduit Laminate from Hardwear which is our waterproof and breathable laminate. The Sub Zero SL is not a waterproof jacket due to construction (not taped) but it will provide superior weather protection to snow and light rain when compared to the TNF jacket. Also, the Sub Zero SL is baffled like a sleeping bag (no cold spots)... not sure about the TNF jacket. Hope this info helps!
