Hi Abbie - The Bionic Jacket has light fleece backing on the interior of the jacket, while the Bionic Thermal has a high loft fleece on the interior. You get extra warmth with the high loft fleece, but it is probably the feel of it that makes it popular.... it does have a really nice feel to it. Hope this helps
