Are these gloves suitable for rappelling or belaying? I picked up a pair of BD gloves that are apparently discontinued because I can't find them anywhere online, but they look very similar to these. I was going to use them for ice climbing and I'm concerned that the synthetic material on either side of the leather palm might melt while rappelling or lowering.

While these gloves will work for rappelling and belaying, Black Diamond's Guide Glove is a similar glove that might be a better option for you because it has more leather and will be more durable for mountaineering applications. http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Black-Diamond-Guide-Glove-Mens/BLD0767M.html
