what is the best way to apply water proofing to these? heat them up in the oven for a few minutes then apply? Do i need to worry about getting leather balm on the non leather parts of the glove?

They don't remain waterproof forever with applying some kind of waterproof material. I'd suggest the Nikkwax leather waterproofing wax. Apply that stuff all over the leather parts of the glove in accordance to the directions on the Nikkwax bottle.

Bad Answer Angus, Hestra recommends waterproofing their gloves. Sigh. Best way to do it is to take some time and rub the waterproofing wax into the glove, making sure to especially get areas that tend to get wet. Hope that helps, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

They're already waterproof, why would you want to do more?
