The nose and tail does not curve up as much on a rocker board, so even with a shorter overall length, the effective edge is the same

The general theory with rocker is to size down, as with a rocker-ed board you use more of an edge between the bindings because of the rock. Its similar to having a longer effective edge. Personally, I actually ride this board at the same size as my cambered. The joystick is my weapon of choice for all conditions. I ride a 157 for jmups, rails, and pipe, and then drop into a 159W for deep powder. (I'm 6 foot and close to 200 lbs.) This board changed my snowboarding for the better, hands down!

the most likely reason they suggest that is that the board rides as if it were a 1-2cm longer than it actually is. This could be because the board is rockered. Or it could be that they made the board a little wider which increase the surface area of the board and thus if the board is bought short the surface area is about the same. Hope that helps.
