I'm looking to order the Mountain hardware black down coat...

I'm looking to order the Mountain hardware black down coat and was wondering if I need a shell like this one to go over it. I was planning on getting the small down coat and getting a medium shell. Would that be a good choice? Do I even need to get a shell with the down coat I am purchasing?

i have a mountain hardwear down coat size small and medium sotic it great fit! recommended

Not sure which Mountain Hardwear jacket you were looking at, but I would suggest layering with a down sweater and you guessed, smaller layers underneath covered by a larger shell.
