I'm not a racer, and unfortunately no longer a fitness guy. I stopped running distance runs on pavement a few yrs ago due to lower back issues, but recently started jogging some nearby trails and the lower impact trail running seems good with my back. I run 3-4 times/week about 5 mi at a run. What sort of shoe would you recommend for me?

No way to say based on the info provided -some shoes are neutral, some are more guidance biased.. How much do you pronate, and what's your stride like? how much support do you need? how rocky and difficult is your terrain? Take a look at the La Sportiva line, as well as the Brooks and Salomon lines. They all make shoes ranging from super light trail runners, to more supportive runners for less experienced feet and ankles. Consider footbeds for more stability and support. Spotiva/Salomon/Brooks all have great websites which can help you select a shoe.
