If you want to mount traditional and just cruize with blats of speed here and there get the 179 but if you want to mount new skool @ true center for BC jib set up and switch charging and just generally aggressive skiing approaching lunacy grab the 189cm ... I ride the 189 and i can literally push it as hard as i want

Height is not always the most important determining factor in what length ski you should get. I would prolly say get teh 179s, but that is assuming you are of a normal body weight and normal build. Also how hard to you ski. I have a friend who is about your height(178cm) and he skiied obsetheds 2 years ago and used aroud a 180 ski length and loved his setup.
