would this bee a good jacket for ball games and backpacking or is it too long. I like that it may cover my butt for sitting down.

Hey Spencer, this is going to be a great jacket for ball games, and when it comes to backpacking it is really personal preference. This jacket is going to come down past your butt for sitting. That might be annoying for backpacking ... walking up hill wont be able to take as long strides. Just remember that BC has an awesome return policy. If you don't like it now or in 30 years you can return it no questions asked
