Hi Jacob- Yes you will need to layer with this jacket on cold days. It does have a Thermoliner in it, but is not insulated. The liner does add warmth, but you will still need more insulation on a cold one. It is a nice compromise however, sometimes a fully insulted jacket is going to be too warm. Hope this helps
