synthetic.. the only natural items of this kind that will keep you warm even when wet that are out there are made of wool. These will dry faster than wool and are much lighter. I really dig these as super comfy sweat pant style loungers that double as super functional in any conditions. Its easy to always put them in the bag for big trip to the mountains.
