So I'm looking for a layering system to help me survive at 22,841 ft (Aconcagua). My thought is to layer this jacket over my TNF Thunder 800-fill down jacket. Has anyone ever tried layering down jackets? Seems like a good idea so that you get two different warm levels for less than 2.5 lbs.

Totally works. I layered with a North Face Prism Jacket (hooded down expedition jacket) and the thunder jacket on my last trip to AK, and the combo worked great. I was really happy to have 2 pieces to use instead of one monster down piece. It will be even better down there where you will have ever bigger swings in temps- Have fun.
