I just read the label on my Backcountry.com Rime Jacket, which is made of Polartec Power Shield like these pants. What is says about Polartec Power Shield: - Extremely Abrasion Resistant - Blocks 98% of the wind - Water Repellant - Highly Breathable - Stretch for active comfort - Less noise than a hardshell - warmth w/o weight - Machine Washable Hope this helps anyone with questions!

These will be SLIGHTLY wind resistant, moreso than your average fleece, but not nearly to the level of a true softshell. The "Hardface, makes the outer surface of the fleece smooth, and helps a bit to cut the wind as compared to a normal fleece, but it is still very air permeable. Hope that helps.
