If you have a long torso, it will not fit. Like most north face jackets, this one has long arms, and short torso. A medium may be a little looser fit, and arms may be an inch too long, but I think you should go medium. Fitted jackets from Northface are tailored for slender people with long arms, or for active people that need to reach up who don't want sleeves to run down. If you are looking for a more casual fit for average proportions, look at Mountain Hardwear jackets, same quality but better fit.
