Hi Nicolas, The material certainly is a softshell. It's a lightweight softshell meant to protect you from light rain and moderate winds. Since there is no liner in the jacket the material will be very stretchy. I quite like Mountain Hardwear's softshell fabric and think you'll be quite happy with this jacket.
