This jacket looks like it was designed for a zip in fleece or softshell, does anyone know what goes in there. I usually just layer but if I can find a good deal I will be all over it.

The only men's Zip-in piece from Marmot backcountry.com carries is the Cauldron.

It is zip in compatible. Any Marmot full zip fleece, vest, or softshell should work.
