The Insulated Varius Guide has 120 Grams of proprietary insulation, while the Plasma has 100 Grams of Primaloft. This makes them pretty close in insulation, but that is about it. The Plasma is a technical lightweight insulated shell, while the Varius is much more of recreational piece (more features, but much heavier). Hope this helps-
